Exploring the Sweet History of Boyer Candy Company

Everything begins with a big idea! In the case of Boyer Candy Company, the big idea came in the kitchen of the Boyer Brothers! This is where they created America’s first cup candy, the delicious and delectable Mallo Cup. Some may call the Mallo cup retro candy, but we like to think that the Mallo Cup is more than just retro candy, but instead a delicious concoction that has stood the test of time, and is still admired amongst people of any age or generation.

The Boyer Brothers created candy as an additional way to supplement the family’s income during the Great Depression, and their sweet treats quickly rose to fame.  Their original offering of homemade fudge and nut raisin clusters we’re a hit, which increased the demand for more delicious treats. Soon after, the brothers began expanding the line of retro candy offered, and eventually transformed into the Boyer Candy Company you know and love today.

1936- 1936 saw the birth of modern Boyer Candy! In 1936, the Boyer Brothers opened their first industrial facility, where they were able to keep up with the demand for their delicious Mallo Cup candy. It was here where the brothers expanded their line of retro candy to offer the peanut butter cup as well as the Smoothie cup.

1969- The Boyer Brothers retired and sold the company to American Maize, best known for manufacturing corn syrup. This year saw the creation of Boyer retro candy offerings like the Minty Mallo, Bunch O’ Nuts, Jamboree, and the Fluffernutter.

1984- Boyer Candy was bought by Anthony Forgione, a New York entrepreneur and founder of Consolidated Brands. This saw the expansion of specialty molded chocolates and special seasonal offerings.

Today Boyer Candy Company is still producing delicious candy that is not only made in the United States, but also gluten free and kosher. One big idea turned into one big company that takes pride in offering only the best quality candy that retro candy enthusiasts and anyone with a sweet tooth adores.
